Green roofs are typically classified as either Extensive or Intensive. Extensive roofs are those requiring little or no maintenance, soil and irrigation. On the other hand, Intensive green roofs require a minimum of 6" soil bedding and frequent irrigation. Intensive green roofs are typically more expensive and require sufficient structural enginnering for the roof system to support the significant loading weight.
Extensive green roofs are designed with less two inches of planting medium area, do not require regular irrigation all the while delivering similar environmental benefits as intensive roofing systems. MetroVerde green roof exist on slopes up to 65%, and importantly, we are designing hybrid greenroof - green vertical wall systems, completing the cycle of a holistic, living green structure.
